On freezing morning in 2.11 our international students gathered in city center for the first kindergarten visit. We went to Teerikallio kindergarten to entertain kids for an hour. First we introduced ourselves shortly, how we are Lapland University of Applied Sciences students in tourism and business degrees, where we are coming from as well as our names. After that kids were assigned with the task to draw their favorite animal. When every child was done…Read more

Eteenpäin –educational trade fair event in Lappia -talo

What is Eteenpäin –educational trade fair event? It is a chance for the educational institutes and companies to network with students, jobseekers and employees. Many schools, like universities and vocational schools, as well as employers, present their operations, values and qualification requirements. It is basically good place for someone who doesn’t know what to do in future, to look for opportunities and ask questions he/she has always wanted to ask from employers, companies and about educational institutes. When I was personally in high school and thinking about what to do with my life…Read more

Getting inspired at Urkult festival 4.-6.8.2016

Two days ago we came back from an inspiring weekend in Näsåker and Sollefteå (where we stayed overnight in Hotel Hallstaberget), Sweden. For me it was my very first trip to Sweden (besides visiting IKEA of course), like to most of us. I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the Urkult Festival in Näsåker among amazingly talented entrepreneurs from Finland, Ireland and Northern Ireland; Ciara Campbell from Ciara Campbell Ceramics, Urs Harttung from Bearfoot Enterprise, Annika Konttaniemi from Susivilla, Kevin Lynch from Airmid Natural Irish Skincare & Gifts, Sallyann Marron from…Read more

Give Back to Lapland last visiting day 29.4 in Ylitornio

This is it – the last day of our senior citizen units visiting tour around Lapland! This time we went to Ylitornio to organize activities for elderly in Ylitornion palvelukoti and Palvelukoti Lantonvainio. Aaron Celeste from Tornio drove first to Rovaniemi to pick us up (Irina Sergeeva, Milla Sandholm and Nina Niskala). Even though Aaron didn’t know Rovaniemi that well, everything went smoothly and we managed to set out to Ylitornio on time. Since this was indeed the last day of our visits, everyone felt little bit tired, and to break the ice…Read more

Give Back to Lapland, Visits in Ranua 28.4.

Thursday proved to be quite an interesting journey as I was travelling with the member of the project coming from Tornio, Aaron Celeste.  It was Aaron´s first time ever to drive to Rovaniemi so naturally there was a small complication in finding a place for him to stop the car and me to hop in but we were efficient enough to stay on schedule any way. On the way to Ranua I received a phone call from the director of both of the senior citizen units we were going to visit that day,…Read more

Give Back to Lapland, Visits in Simo 27.4.

On Tuesday evening it became obvious that no one of our group members neither acquaintance could drive on Wednesday.  But a promise should be kept so I decided to take a bus to Simo on my own in order to visit the two senior citizen units of the day.  I had luck on my side; the only possible bus rides of the day fitted just fine to schedule and as Simo was a small town, I was able to just take my time and explore the town center too. Palvelukoti Mäntylä Since I…Read more
